Glories: Fake and Real
Series: Risen
Based on John 17:1-5

Our hearts are always searching for affirmation, praise and acceptance. We look for those things in many different areas, but three of the main areas that we do that is in romantic love, money and success. But none of those things last and none of those things give us the affirmation, praise and acceptance our heart needs. Only a God who gives up all his ultimate affirmation, praise and acceptance can give us the deepest needs of our starved hearts.

The Most Hopeless Easter Sermon Ever – and Why It Makes Us Glad
    Series: Risen
    Based on 1 Peter 3: 18-20a

We confess in the Apostles’ Creed that Jesus descended into Hell, but that becomes confusing to people as to what that really meant. The Apostle Peter reminds us that Jesus preached a pretty scathing sermon on Easter Sunday to the spirits in Hell’s prison. He wanted them to know that he was truly the Victor, while they had now lost forever. That sermon has always been a comfort to God’s people! It reminds us that Jesus really did win on Easter - for us!  He even conquered the Devil with His Easter resurrection. Nothing could ever separate us from Jesus’ love and forgiveness!

    Confirmands…It’s Time to Grow Up!
    Series: Risen
    Based on Ephesians 4:13-15

There are times when we glorify the “Peter Pan Syndrome.” It’s the idea of never having to grow up. It’s kind of fun to consider and dream about in a way, but in the end growing up is a good thing to do. St. Paul said that the same is true in our spiritual life. God wants us to mature in our faith so that we can build up the church, not be fooled by false teachings, and so that we can be in a position to help someone else grow, too.
