Seeing the Real Jesus
Based on Matthew 17:1-9

Everybody has an idea of what God looks like and how to approach him. And people usually see him in one of two ways; either as a bloodthirsty tyrant who demands service, or as an eternally approachable God who cares very little about what we do. Only in seeing Jesus do we see the complete picture of who God is and how we may approach him.

    Christian Love is Different
    Based on Matthew 5:38-48

Repay evil with evil. That’s what goes through our minds. And that law of retaliation is what many judicial systems are based upon. However, Jesus turns the law of love completely upside down when he reminds us to love even those who do evil to us.

    Sin and Relationships

    Based on Matthew 5:21-26

Sin is at the root of all dysfunctional relationships. It is at the root of every dysfunction in relationships. God gives us advice as to fixing those dysfunctions. First, recognize the sin in your own heart. Second, stop that sin. Third, reconcile with that person. Only when we see the sacrifice of Christ to reconcile us to God will lead us to be empowered to do this.

    You are Salt and Light
    Based on Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus used a couple of simple things that you’d easily find in this world to teach us what He has made us to be in His kingdom. We are salt because we are the “preservative” in a world decaying of sin. We are light because we will be easily seen by the world as we live our faith and witness to it. Our witnessing for the Lord matters so much! So we always strive to “pass the salt” and “be the light.”

Trust in God’s Strength…even through the tears
    Based on Matthew 5:4

Nobody likes to be sad, but Jesus talked about how mourning could be a really good thing in a Christian’s life. We mourn over sins in society, and especially our own sins. But Jesus said that we are blessed when we mourn because it shows how the Holy Spirit is active in our hearts and because God offers and gives comfort to us at the same time. Only God’s strength could sustain us when we are sad...by making us glad!
