Epiphany is a season of learning about the person and purpose of Jesus. Isaiah tells us that there is a darkness the clouds our whole world. But he promises we can have hope. Jesus comes to bring light to our world. His light gives life and it reveals the truth. Two things we desperately need.
We don’t have to hope it will be a good new year. We have the fullness of God’s grace which are most clearly shown in Jesus. Standing on his promises – no matter what trouble we may face – it will be a year of his goodness to us.

Jesus uses the example of the Pharisee and the tax collector to teach us that things are not always as they appear. People look at outside appearance; God looks at the heart. We can’t understand generosity until we experience the grace of God; when that happens generosity will express itself in many ways.
