Rationalism: The Lie that You Can Find God in Your Mind
Based on Genesis 11:1-9

Human reason is perhaps the greatest earthly gift of God to man, but there are some truths in the Bible that the human mind is incapable of fully comprehending. Rationalism is the trap of supposing we must make the incomprehensible teachings of God’s Word rational to our minds. Rationalism comes with great dangers to our faith. Clinging to the Word of God and trusting what it says, even when it defies human reason, is what brings God the most glory and man the most comfort.

“Mysticism: The Lie that You Can Find God in Your Heart” – Children’s Lesson
    Based on 1 Kings 19:9-18

God’s Word is so ordinary and plain. It’s tempting to want to find God or hear God speak to you in ways that are not so ordinary and plain, more extraordinary and personal. This is the lie of mysticism. The truth and the antidote to mysticism are found in Christ and his Word.

    Based on Luke 10:38-42

Inside every one of us is a little pietist who supposes that by becoming a “better and better” Christian that God will become even more pleased with us. This is the lie of pietism. The truth and antidote to pietism are found in Christ and his Word.

The Lies We Believe – Enthusiasm: Finding God Apart from His Word
    Based on Genesis 3:1-9

This week sets the scene for the rest of the series. All the lies explored in the series are a form of “enthusiasm,” trying to find God apart from his Word. The great danger in that is that anything and everything apart from the Word of God is shaky, unsolid ground. There can be no solidity, no surety, no security of our eternal salvation by standing on anything but the Word of God.

The Festival of Pentecost celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the New Testament church. Jesus promised his disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to them and remind them of all that he taught them. The Holy Spirit still comes to us today in special ways and bestows peace on us, by reminding us of Jesus’ words and deeds!

Youth Confirmation Weekend is a great time for us all to be reminded that God wants our faith in Jesus is to be personal and active. Christ has done the work of connecting us to himself through the cross and Baptism, but now we have an active part in staying connected to Christ through his Word and Sacraments. God be with our confirmands and us as we stay close to Christ!

“With the Resurrection it’s All or Nothing” – Children’s Lesson

    Based on 1 Corinthians 15:12,16-20

There’s something intriguing about an “all or nothing” scenario. St. Paul talked about an “all or nothing” scenario with the Corinthians and us. He said that if Jesus rose from the dead, then we have ALL of the blessings he promised. If he didn’t, then we have nothing! Thankfully Jesus is alive. We have it all - forgiveness, peace, joy and so much more. He is risen! He is risen indeed!
