    Cultivated in the Word
    Series: Rooted
    Based on James 1:17-27

James isn’t a book about how to earn God’s favor. It’s a book that describes the heart of someone who knows God has loved them enough to die for them. James 1 shows that the heart of one cultivated in God’s word is one who communicates entirely in loving ways and is humbled by God’s grace in the face of their own sinfulness.

    “Rooted Faith Sees the Unseeable,
Does the Unreasonable”
    Series: Rooted
    Based on Hebrews 11:24-28

As followers of Christ, we are often called to take the hard road instead of the easy road. We are called to live in ways that run counter to the rest of the world. Hard as that may be, we can trust Christ with our unseen future. By faith, like Moses, we can see the unseeable and do the unreasonable.

    The Structure of Marriage
    Based on Ephesians 5:21-33

The roles of men and women in marriage can be a contentious topic. Sin and Satan try to divide us. But when we look at God’s design for marriage we see there is a so much potential for what we can accomplish for the Lord when we live lives of humble service, using our gifts not for ourselves, but for one another.

    “Communication and Marriage”
    Based on James 4:1-3, 11-12

Dr. John Gottman noted that 86% of all marriage strife is due to bad communication. James shows us the primary characteristic on ungodly communication and gives us the form godly communication should take.

    Priority of Marriage
    Based on Genesis 2:18-24

There are a number of emotional and relational problems that take place when you don’t make your spouse your top priority. There are even deeper and more painful problem that occur when you don’t make God your top priority. But when you do, God gives you a powerful resource for all the relationships in your life.

    The Mystery of Marriage
    Based on Hosea 1:2-3, 3:1

Our culture’s view on marriage seems quite pessimistic. The divorce rate is quite high. The rate of people getting married has been on a downward trend since 1980. Marriage is a mystery. When we leave out grace and forgiveness marriage will always be that way. The prophet Hosea served as a perfect example of God’s grace and forgiveness to his bride, the Church.

Rationalism: The Lie that You Can Find God in Your Mind
    Based on Genesis 11:1-9

Human reason is perhaps the greatest earthly gift of God to man, but there are some truths in the Bible that the human mind is incapable of fully comprehending. Rationalism is the trap of supposing we must make the incomprehensible teachings of God’s Word rational to our minds. Rationalism comes with great dangers to our faith. Clinging to the Word of God and trusting what it says, even when it defies human reason, is what brings God the most glory and man the most comfort.

“Mysticism: The Lie that You Can Find God in Your Heart” – Children’s Lesson
    Based on 1 Kings 19:9-18

God’s Word is so ordinary and plain. It’s tempting to want to find God or hear God speak to you in ways that are not so ordinary and plain, more extraordinary and personal. This is the lie of mysticism. The truth and the antidote to mysticism are found in Christ and his Word.
